Photographers can find many scenic vistas and wild subjects to shoot. Those who wish to photograph fireflies must have experience with long-exposure shooting and proper equipment. Cell phone cameras are NOT proper equipment.

NORTH COUNTRY TRAIL

The 4,600-mile-long North Country Trail is a National Scenic Trail and is accessible within 1/2 mile of KFF. The trails appeal to avid backpackers or casual day hikers alike. Long haulers may use the KFF for lodging, WiFi access or mailing address for delivery of provisions. For lodging, complete this application to secure your dates.

HORSEBACK RIDING
Lodgers at the KFF who are horse owners trailering their own mounts are welcome to park in the field and use the creek for watering. No extra charge. No hookups, stables, or fencing are provided.

Flying W Ranch, home of the Allegheny Mountain Rodeo, is located 2 miles west of the KFF. The Flying W is known as the largest Dude Ranch east of the Mississippi. They have some of the best trail stock in the area and the guided trail rides take you to the backcountry of the Allegheny National Forest.

FISHING AND BIRDING
The Tionesta Creek and its tributaries the Salmon and Branch Creeks are stocked by the State Fish & Game Commission in April and May with Rainbow and Brown Trout. The Little Minister Creek that runs along the KFF property is a natural habitat for Brook Trout. Trout season opens annually the first weekend of April. Anglers can try their luck on dry or wet flies, nymph lures, or bait fishing. All must obtain and display a current PA Fishing License.

Bird watching is almost unavoidable at KFF. Novice and experienced birders will find the 100 plus species in and around the Kellettville area. Birders can trek out into the fields and forest to find warblers, vireos, owls, hawks, and bald eagles, or just sit on the porch to watch hummingbirds or songbirds at the feeders.

STAR GAZING
The dark nights and open field of the Kellettville Firefly Farm (KFF) offer prime viewing of the night skies. On clear nights, Stargazers and Lunar watchers can see the Milky Way, identify constellations or howl at the moon! If you're lucky, you might see the International Space Station or meteor showers cross the sky.
SNOWMOBILES, ATVs & MOTORCYCLES
The Kellettville Firefly Farm has direct access to the ANF Snowmobile Trail #1 during the season mid-December through March (weather permitting). Guests of the KFF with snowmobiles, can park trailers and enjoy warm lodging.

The Tour de Forest is held twice a year Fall and Spring as a fundraiser for the Marienville Volunteer Fire Department. Guests of the KFF are welcome to park trailers overnight, for the Tour De Forest. Otherwise, there are no legal ATV trails adjacent to the KFF.

Route 666 is known as the "Devil's Highway" by motorcycle clubs and tours. This scenic route from East Hickory on the West end to Sheffield on the East end winds through some of the most breathtaking views of the Tionesta Creek. Riders should be aware that road conditions are not always ideal and wildlife crossings are frequent. Safety and caution should be exercised at all times.

KAYAKING AND CANOEING
April through July are usually the peak season months for kayaking and canoeing the Tionesta. However, this depends heavily on the rainfall. The Tionesta Creek is a US Army Corps of Engineers operation and water levels are controlled by the dam at Tionesta Lake. There are no State boat launches, but lodgers can access the creek at several public access points to launch and pull-out. Personal Flotation Devices are required in boats under 16 ft. Alcohol is prohibited on the Tionesta Creek and Lake.

MOUNTAIN AND TRAIL BIKE
Most of the trails surrounding KFF are mountain bike accessible during spring and summer months (off hunting season). The snowmobile trail gates are closed, but can be used for foot traffic and non-motorized vehicles. Trail riders may prefer to travel to one of the many rails-to-trails systems located within a 30-minute drive of Kellettville.

HUNTING
Hunting seasons from Spring Turkey to Black Bear and Deer seasons in late Fall brings hunters of all ages come to KFF for access to game lands. The KFF is adjacent to the ANF and within the D-Map permit area. The KFF has some Ruffed Grouse and the Kellettville Sportsmens' Club stocks the area with Ring-neck Pheasant in the fall. Bird-dog Hunters are welcome, but dogs must be leashed, or crated when not working.
